The game was presented at the Playtime exhibit in Yverdon’s Maison d’ailleurs. One version was developped for a big event around Jules Verne in the Maison d’Ailleurs in June 2013. Used as a medium for storytelling, this project will be used to cast different interactive stories. The Eccentric Club won the UEF prize for best Masters diploma at HEAD Geneva.
The Eccentric Club is an urban role playing game inspired by Jules Verne’s novel « The Will of an Eccentric » in which a board acts as a game master. The Club is made of four atypical characters, stuck in a board game since 1899 because of the will from late president and millionaire William J. Hypperbone. The goal is to get them back home by trying to outsmart the board. The players are invited to select one of the four members of the club in order to participate in the adventure. The game is made of an intelligent board whose pawns are connected to an application running on a smartphone. Players receive audio instructions from their chosen character each time a pawn moves on the board. The different teams have to collaborate in this fictional universe by solving the quests proposed to them by the machiavellian board from late William J. Hypperbone.
